BioElectronics Corporation is the maker of ActiPatch(TM), a drug-free, anti-inflammatory patch with an embedded battery operated microchip that delivers weeks of continuous pulsed electromagnetic therapy for less than a dollar a day. The unique ActiPatch delivery system uses a patented technology to provide a cost-effective, patient friendly method to reduce soft tissue pain and swelling. The ActiPatch™ has received FDA market clearance for the treatment of edema. In addition, it has received International Standards Organization (ISO) and CE Certifications as well as Health Canada Market clearance for the relief of musculoskeletal pain. The clinical effectiveness of the ActiPatch™ has been well established. Testing performed at the Bioelectromagnetics Research Laboratory at the State University of New York has shown that ActiPatch Therapy provides an adequate dosage of electromagnetic energy for the treatment of soft tissue, and that its power at the skin level is equivalent to that of traditional high-power devices. The power level is six to nine orders of magnitude higher that that which is required to show a biological effect. It also demonstrated that the cumulative effect of continuous delivery provides greater therapeutic benefit than sporadic treatments. In 2006, BioElectronics and the Lahey Clinic jointly announced a three-year program to study the effects of ActiPatch Therapy on a variety of soft tissue injuries and related medical conditions. The internationally renowned Lahey Clinic in Boston, whose faculty is affiliated with the Medical Schools of Harvard and Tufts, has committed to initiating a number of double-blind clinical studies on ActiPatch Therapy in the areas of plastic surgery, orthopedics and chronic wound care. Results from these clinical trials will be submitted to the United States Food and Drug Administration for expanded indications for the use of ActiPatch Therapy. In March 2006, BioElectronics also commenced a series of double-blind clinical trials to be conducted in conjunction with leading schools of podiatry and selected clinics to document the effects of ActiPatch on treating plantar fascitis (heel pain). The Principal Investigator for the study is Dr. William Van der Reis, a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon and sports medicine specialist. The study protocol was approved by the Investigational Review Board, Coast IRB, of San Clemente, CA. It is important to note that on October 9, it was announced that Henry Schein, Inc. (NASDAQ GS: HSIC), the largest provider of healthcare products and services to office-based practitioners in the North American and European markets agreed to sell and distribute ActiPatch™. Henry Schein, a Fortune 500(R) company, is recognized for its excellent customer service and highly competitive prices. The company's four business groups -- Dental, Medical, International and Technology -- serve more than 500,000 customers worldwide, including dental practices and laboratories, physician practices and veterinary clinics, as well as government and other institutions. |
